Tooth Extraction Aftercare
Tooth extraction may be needed for various reasons, such as tooth decay, orthodontic treatment, or wisdom teeth removal. Proper aftercare is crucial to minimize pain and infection risk.
Immediate Care:
Bite down on gauze to control bleeding, changing as needed.
Keep your head elevated and rest.
Rinse with warm salt water 48 hours post-surgery.
Brush gently around the surgical site.
Use ice packs to reduce swelling.
Follow prescribed medication instructions.
Eat soft, protein-rich foods.
Stay hydrated, but avoid using straws.
Avoid smoking for 3-4 days.
Healing Process:
Sutures will dissolve or be removed within 3-14 days.
The socket will gradually fill with bone and tissue.
Potential complications include bleeding, bone sequestration, dry socket, lightheadedness, numbness, swelling, and jaw soreness.
