Dental Implant Surgery Aftercare
After your dental implant surgery, proper care is essential for healing and implant success. Here’s what you need to do:
Antibiotics: Take prescribed antibiotics and use the oral rinse and saltwater rinse as directed to prevent infection.
Bleeding: Light bleeding is normal. Bite gently on gauze pads to control the bleeding and replace as needed.
Pain Management: Begin pain medication before the anesthetic wears off. Over-the-counter options like Tylenol® or ibuprofen are effective.
Diet: Stick to soft foods initially, and stay hydrated. Resume normal eating when comfortable.
Hygiene: Brush your teeth as usual but avoid the implant site. Use prescribed rinses to keep the area clean.
Swelling: Expect some swelling. Keep your head elevated, use ice packs for the first 48 hours, and limit activity.
Prosthesis: Avoid using dentures, retainers, or night guards for at least 10 days unless advised otherwise.
Smoking: Refrain from smoking for at least 2 weeks to reduce infection risk.
Recovery varies by individual and treatment plan. Proper care will help your implant integrate with the jawbone and ensure long-term success. Follow up as scheduled and manage any discomfort with prescribed pain relief.
